Course Description
This class is great for youth looking to learn skills that will get them more independence in their own education.
During this course, students will practice the basic skills of a scholar in seeking, discovering, collecting, organizing, and assessing information. All which is needed to be a successful high schooler.
This class puts the youth in the “driver seat” in their educational vehicle while parents and the course facilitator sit in the passenger seat guiding and mentoring. This gives the youth the opportunity to practice and learn how to be in charge of the skills and growth for themselves instead of waiting for others to tell them what to do.
By the time the youth starts this class, they would have already learned all the basics of education – reading, writing rules, mathematics, some science rules – and is the time to begin putting those to use by showing what they have learned through learning the skills of a scholar through projects of learning.
Our youth are preparing to go into the wide world and begin their own lives. The parents and course facilitator’s job is to help the youth prepare to make a positive difference in their own lives and in the lives of others, by taking charge of their own education.
Additionally, In this class the facilitator will introduce and encourage the idea to grow, to aspire to do hard things, and the concept of the “sacred promise”. This promise is an elevated promise to oneself to do our absolute best on whatever we need or get to do in education and in life. A sacred promise is not passive or idle, it is active and alive. “Good enough” is not good enough, we must go higher and be better than we were yesterday. A sacred promise can help both youth and adults to do and be better in all they do.
