Course Description:
This 12-week course is designed to introduce high school students to a variety of artistic techniques and mediums, encouraging creative expression and exploration. Students will learn fundamental principles of art and design while experimenting with different materials, including drawing, painting, and collage. Through hands-on projects and guided instruction, students will develop their artistic skills and discover their unique style. The course will culminate in a final project that allows students to showcase their newfound skills and creativity. Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to experiment, take risks, and explore their creativity in a supportive environment.
By the end of the 12 weeks, students will have a strong foundation in art and a portfolio of work to demonstrate their artistic growth and achievements. We are planning on 1 field per semester.
Week-by-Week Outline
Week 1-3: Abstract Art
• Exploration of abstract art principles
• Creation of an abstract artwork using acrylic paint on canvas – Picasso’s Head of the Woman
Week 4-6: Personal Narrative Art
• Introduction to storytelling through art
• Creation of a mixed medium artwork that tells a personal story or conveys an emotion
Week 7-9: Digital Art
• Introduction to digital art software and tools
• Digital art project combining traditional and digital mediums
Week 10-11: Public Art and Installation
***Field Trip to the Silos in McKinney***
• Discussion of public art and installation art
• Group project to create a temporary public art installation for Springfest
Week 12: Final Project Presentation: At SpringFest
• The final project showcases the skills and techniques learned throughout the course. We will present final projects and other course projects on our display table at the SpringFest.
