This class is for students twelve and up who are interested in or who are already “babysitting”. When students complete the class, they will have the following items to bring with them to a job; a tote bag to carry to and from child care jobs for activities and other goodies, an Emergency Contact board, Rules of the House board, file folder games, booklist and other handy lists, and a file box to store everything at home. It will up their game if they are already working child care jobs.
They will have a “resume” and we will have a table at Fall Fest to advertise our newly trained sitters. The last day of class, we will be practicing our skills in the Pre-K/K class for a half an hour. I will also shadow any student on their first job or help a student at their next job to give them pointers on how to improve so they get asked back even more. I have included a course outline for a better understanding of what will be covered.
About Me:
I had no interest in children until I was 11 years old, when my neighbors had their first child. He became the center of my world and how my “babysitting career” started. I “babysat” through junior high, high school, college and beyond.
I graduated with a degree in psychology with a concentration in child development and a minor in human development, counseling and family studies. I also went back to school for elementary education and took all the classes but didn’t get a teaching certificate because I could not take off from my job teaching to earn a certificate. The irony! I already had been grandfathered in to still teach, but I wanted the paper to back it up!!!
I have homeschooled my two children all their lives. My son graduated last year and my daughter will be a senior in the fall.
