Step into the world of journalism and storytelling in the COACH Chronicles Newspaper class, a hands-on, student-led experience where creativity meets real-world communication skills. Students will also explore visual and creative positions such as photojournalists, cartoonists, and advice columnists contributing to a “Dear Abby”-style section.

The class is primarily student-driven, encouraging leadership, collaboration, and responsibility, while experienced teachers provide guidance and support throughout the process. Students will work together to research, write, edit, design, and publish content that reflects the voice and interests of the COACH homeschool community.

Throughout the year, the team will produce two full newspaper editions—one published at the end of the Fall semester and another at the end of the Spring semester. In addition, students will create and distribute weekly one-page bulletins during lunch, featuring timely updates on the school calendar, upcoming events, and important announcements.

This class is ideal for students interested in writing, photography, design, leadership, or simply staying connected and involved in school life. No prior experience is required—just curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to collaborate.

Students in the newspaper class should expect to spend at least two to four hours each week on homework. This time will be used for research, writing, conducting interviews, reading, and collaborating with teammates prior to class on Thursdays. All assignments must be completed and submitted on time. Students who do not consistently complete their homework will be reassigned to study hall.

Supplies Needed: notebook, pen, sketch pad, laptop if a writer or editor.
