CORE: ECONOMICS
This high school economics class will involve watching the MoneyWise DVD’s from Masterbooks during class. They are about 20 minutes long and I own them so you do not need to purchase them. See below for the THREE inexpensive resources your student will need. We will then have discussion about the weekly reading from Whatever Happened to Penny Candy, and the accompanying Free Market Reader.
We will plan to have three 50 min zoom meetings BEFORE our first in-person class for a total of 15 weeks. Because this is a high school requirement and considered a core class, purchasing the three resources before classes start, attending the zoom classes, and completing reading and homework worksheets are a requirement. Homework should not be more than one to two hours per week. I will not be administering tests. I am happy to provide tests that you can administer at home if you would like. There will be one project to due on the 10th week (not the 12th week.) My goal is for the kids to learn through video, reading, and discussion. This will equal the required half credit for economics. If you would like for your student to have a more “rigorous” economics course, or you find they truly enjoy the topic, I have a couple additional books to suggest that could enhance their assignments.
All three books have been used for economics in the Homeschooling community for quite a while. They should be easily found at thriftbooks.com or half-price books.
