ELECTIVE
Yearbook is a year long class. Students learn and work together to create a yearbook for all ages; infants up to seniors. They learn valuable skills like communication, team work, and deadlines.
They will vote on a yearbook theme from the yearbook website and learn how to design a page using the book’s templates.
Class time in the first semester is learning the ins and outs of how to produce a yearbook and coming up with the theme and fun pages. The second semester is when we really start to add some pictures to the book, but we also have to wait until prom, theater productions, festivals end, and graduation is over. We typically do not send the yearbook to print until the beginning of July.
They will help to gather pictures and sort them into folders in our yearbook account. They will conduct senior and teacher interviews. Several times throughout the year they will promote the yearbook at lunch and help families to get signed up for one.
They will learn basic picture taking skills using their phones. They will learn basic editing skills and learn how to turn out yearbook from start to finish. No camera is necessary. It is not a photography class.
Students will be responsible to download any pictures they took in their classes on their down time at home.
When co-op ends there will be some meetups outside of co-op until the book is finished. They will be determined in advance towards the end of the school year when graduation is over. Some can be via GoogleMeet or Zoom.
They may have to occasionally work on their yearbook pages at home.
Supplies Needed:
A computer or tablet will be needed to help create pages for the yearbook. It can be borrowed.
