This class will offer your child hands on experiences in the world of science. Each year is unique, because it is a multi-age classroom. Every week your child will do at least 1 experiment. I try not to repeat experiments unless I know the children in the class have never done it or it has been a long time since we did. They will also learn basic science concepts and how to listen and be patient.
Materials Needed:
Pencil box/case, pencils, pencil sharpener, scissors, colored pencils, and glue stick.
Homework: Videos to watch at home and an occasional worksheet.
Teacher Bio: I love teaching and seeing the excitement on the children’s faces as they discover new things. I have taught at COACH for the four years my children attended, before they graduated. I have taught Hands on Science all four years, as well as teaching in the PreK/K, in yearbook, and a variety of other classes.
I graduated with a BA in psychology with a concentration in child development. I also minored in Human Development Counseling & Family Studies and Philosophy.
I took a semester off to work in a multigenerational day care setting with nursing home residents and fell in love with teaching and never looked back.
I worked with toddlers and started an infant program there to then be offered a position at a brand new facility at a university, working with Two’s and later preschool and kindergarten. It was a unique setting as we had children from all over the world because their parent(s) were teaching temporarily at the university. As well as local families whose parent(s) taught or worked at the college.
I later returned to school to get my teaching degree and fell short of student teaching because I started my own day care. I ran that until we started having kids.
I have done consulting and restructuring in day cares, mainly in their under three programs.
Teaching staff classroom behavior management and how to offer activities instead of just routine care.
I once took a classroom of two year olds on a train ride to the RI state house just to see the building and have lunch before riding back. A state senator invited us in to give us a little tour because the children were so well behaved on the steps of the building and he could not believe that they were only two. The sky was always the limit and I have a lot of fond memories working in early education. Give me a challenge and I find a way to overcome or go down trying!
I then homeschooled my two starting in preschool right up to graduation . I enjoying serving my community and am passionate about giving children a head start in life.
